Description
This is a beautiful vintage tourbillon watch. I want to be very clear that it is a wind-up watch that self-regulates, i.e. an “old man’s watch.” It is not the automatic new watch created in 2019, but the predecessor of the Drive de Cartier Moon Phases watch, which is why these watches have the Cartier beloved rhodiumized scales pattern within the cushion-shaped setting. There are NOT 25 jewels exposed, as a horologist can explain those “jewels” involve the actual clock movements, which are Swiss made as denoted on the back. It is a skeleton watch, exposing this quartz watch’s moonstone, which is very valuable.
The open skeleton shows the steampunk mechanics from the front and back, which is rare. This has the standard Cartier moon phase watch design elements: blued-steel sword-shaped hands, transparent case back, and 18k rose gold, albeit steel was the other option originally. This is a Cartier Calibres, Special Displays Watch, that shows retrograde days of the week, earth rotations, precision moon phase and minutes indications in separate column wheel chronographs with special apertures for hours, minutes, days of the week and date. Cartier is a master of mechanical horology.
